Nitpick update

I would like to thank Anonymous for pointing out an error I didn't realize I was doing.

It is ANYWAY, not ANYWAYS.

Unlike many people on forums who get corrected, I will not get upset and instead I will apply this constructive criticism.

So I can say who I am now? LOL. I really didn't want to seem rude at all. It just so happens that "anyways" is one of my nitpicks! :) Along with "axe you a question" and "heigth". Great blog BTW and I hope the MS walk turns out to be a raging success!

Hi Janey
Just popped out of the Dale (I'm Vall(e)y by the way!) to say that I agree with you 100% on your nitpicks. Except for the fact that I'm a Brit, and some of our terms for things are different (e.g we say power cuts instead of outages), our grammar is largely the same, and the spelling mistakes people make because they don't know their homonyms from their antonyms are, to me, outrageous.

Everyone makes typos, me more than most, but my favourite nitpick is that most people have no clue how to use the apostrophe, and we get things like 'area's' as a plural form.

For a good read and a good laugh, try Lynne Truss's 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves (if you haven't already). It's the funniest book about punctuation you'll ever read!
Take care

Val - Oh yes, didn't you know that every word ending in "s" has to be possessive? I've been wanting to read 'Eat Shoots and Leaves' since it came out. I need to make time this summer.

Hi Janey

It's also "toward" not "towards"...

I'm really a nitpicker when it comes to proper grammar, too.
When I'm making comments on a blog, I do my best to use proper grammar, punctuation, apostrophes, etc.

Good luck on your MS walk.
I had a big scare the past month. I had some very strange symptoms & I thought it might have been MS. I was all set up for an MRI, but as it turns out, it was just a very weird virus going around that attacked my large muscle groups. I became sick the beginning of January & I am only about 90% now. It's been a long haul.
I did a lot of research on the disease, so I've become quite familiar with symptoms of the disease.
It's good to hear that your sister is managing.

Love
Dale

Dale - You had me running here to make sure I hadn't used "towards" somewhere! ;)

Glad to hear that you weren't stricken with MS, although your virus sounds scary enough. Hope you get back up to 100% soon!

Hi Janey, me again! Thanks for your comments on my blog, and also for your response here too. I've just been thinking about Dale's 'toward' and 'towards'. In GB English, it is more common to use 'Towards', but my dictionary offers 'toward' as an alternative. It then proceeds to give all examples using the 's', so I guess this is an American English vs Brit English difference.

Eats, Shoots and Leaves is an absolute MUST for anyone who's a stickler for puntuation and grammar. You'll love it!

Like Dale, I try to write correctly on my blog, but sometimes, my fingers are just plain contrary and go all dyslexic on me. Today is a prime example!
Take care
Val
